The Fall of Madison Tower #13

The aftermath of Madison Tower’s destruction and the uncertain future left in its wake. As investigators, survivors, and grieving families try to understand what happened, the consequences spread through every corner of the story—from legal battles and hospital rooms to fractured relationships and difficult choices. Several characters are forced to confront the truth about the people they trusted, while others begin rebuilding their lives from the ruins. The chapter is reflective but still tense, showing that even after an empire falls, its secrets—and its damage—continue to shape everyone left behind.

CHAPTER FORTY ONE

The Engagement Party - 7:00 PM (Before the Collapse)

The penthouse is alive with celebration. Champagne flows. Music pulses. Laughter echoes off the glass walls.

Jessica stands at the center of it all, Kira beside her in his wheelchair. They're surrounded by friends. By allies. By people who helped bring down an empire.

Mariah raises her glass. "To Jessica and Kira!"

Everyone cheers.

Jessica smiles. But her eyes keep drifting to the door.

"He'll come," Kira whispers.

"I know." Jessica's voice is certain.

And then the fire alarm sounds.

The Collapse - 7:51 PM (Recap)

The evacuation is chaos. People rushing for exits. Security guards shouting instructions.

Jessica rides the elevator up alone. To the penthouse. To Sebastian.

The confrontation is brief. Violent. Inevitable.

She shoots him in the stomach. Then in the head.

He falls through the broken window. Twenty stories down. Through the stained glass ceiling. Into the arms of the angel statue.

The detonator falls from his hand.

Activates.

The explosions cascade through Madison Tower. Basement to ground floor. Structural supports giving way.

The building groans. Collapses. Floor by floor.

Jessica runs. Down the stairs. Kira waiting at the bottom.

They make it out just as the entire structure comes down.

Dust. Debris. Sirens.

Madison Tower is gone.

And so is Sebastian Gaston.

The News Broadcast - 10:15 PM

Every channel shows the same footage. The collapse. The rubble. The body count.

"Sebastian Gaston's body has been recovered from the wreckage," the anchor says. "Authorities also discovered the remains of Riley Oh, confirming years of speculation about her disappearance."

The entire country is watching. Buzzing. Dissecting every detail.

In a hotel room across town, Zoey Skye watches the broadcast with hollow eyes.

Sebastian is dead.

Madison Tower is destroyed.

Everything is gone.

She reaches for the bottle of wine on the nightstand. Pours herself a glass.

And smiles.

Eli's Home - 11:42 PM

Police raid the construction site office. Eli's workspace. His files.

They find everything. Blueprints. Financial records. Evidence of every crime Sebastian ever committed.

"Bag it all," the lead detective says.

They find photos. Documents linking Sebastian to multiple murders. Money laundering. Fraud.

"This is enough to put him away for life," one officer says.

"He's already dead," another replies.

"Then it's enough to bury his legacy."

They keep searching. Keep finding. Keep building a case against a dead man.

Justice, even posthumously, has teeth.

The Hospital - 2:34 AM

Kyle wakes slowly. His head is pounding. His vision is blurred.

"Mr. Kline?" A nurse leans over him. "Can you hear me?"

Kyle tries to speak. His throat is dry. "Water."

The nurse helps him drink. "You've been in a coma for three days. You fell down a flight of stairs."

Kyle blinks. Tries to focus. "Mariah?"

"She's fine. Minor injuries. She's been here every day waiting for you to wake up."

Relief floods through him. "And Sloane?"

The nurse's expression changes. "Your daughter... she's not doing well, Mr. Kline."

Kyle tries to sit up. Pain shoots through his body. "What do you mean?"

"She's been living on the streets. We tried to contact her about your condition, but she refused to come."

Kyle's heart sinks. "I need to see her."

"You need to rest—"

"I need to see my daughter!" Kyle's voice cracks.

The nurse backs away. "I'll see what I can do."

Kyle lies back, staring at the ceiling. His vision keeps blurring. Doubling. Something's wrong with his eyes.

But all he can think about is Sloane.

The Street Corner - 8:15 AM

Sloane sits on the sidewalk, a cardboard sign in front of her. "Anything helps. God bless."

People walk past. Some drop coins. Most ignore her.

She's thin. Gaunt. Her hair is matted. Her clothes are dirty.

This is what rock bottom looks like.

A shadow falls over her. She looks up.

Kelly Allen stands there, designer sunglasses, expensive coat.

"Sloane Kline," Kelly says. "I thought that was you."

Sloane doesn't respond.

Kelly crouches down. "I have a proposition for you."

"I'm not interested."

"You haven't heard it yet." Kelly pulls out a business card. "I'm starting a record label. I need singers. Talented singers."

Sloane stares at the card. "Why me?"

"Because you're desperate." Kelly's smile is cold. "And desperate people make the best deals."

"What kind of deal?"

"You record songs for me. I pay you a thousand dollars per song. I keep the royalties."

Sloane's eyes widen. "That's exploitation."

"That's business." Kelly stands. "Take it or leave it. But I don't think you have many other options."

Sloane looks at the card. At the money people have dropped in her cup. Three dollars and forty-seven cents.

She takes the card.

"Smart girl," Kelly says. "Come by my office tomorrow. We'll get started."

Kelly walks away, leaving Sloane alone with her choice.

The Hospital - 3:47 PM

Sloane walks into Kyle's room. He's sitting up, bandages around his head.

"Sloane." His voice breaks. "Thank God."

She doesn't move closer. "The nurse said you wanted to see me."

"Of course I wanted to see you." Kyle reaches out. "Come here."

Sloane stays by the door. "I can't stay long."

"Why not?"

"I have things to do."

Kyle's face falls. "Sloane, please. We need to talk—"

"About what?" Her voice is sharp. "About how you chose Mariah over me? About how you let Mom destroy everything?"

"That's not fair—"

"Fair?" Sloane laughs bitterly. "Nothing about this is fair, Dad. Nothing."

Kyle tries to stand. His vision blurs. He grabs the bed rail. "I'm sorry. For everything. But I'm here now. Let me help you."

"I don't need your help." Sloane turns to leave.

"Wait." Kyle's voice is desperate. "Your mother. Is she... is she really sick?"

Sloane pauses. "You mean the dementia?"

"Yes."

Sloane looks back at him. "She's faking it, Dad. She's been faking it the whole time."

Kyle's face goes pale. "What?"

"I saw her throw away the pills. The ones I put in her wine. She knew what I was doing and she used it to her advantage." Sloane's voice is hollow. "She's always been smarter than all of us."

"Sloane—"

"Go be Mariah's father." Sloane opens the door. "She's the one who deserves you."

And she's gone.

Kyle stands there, alone, his vision doubling again.

His daughter is lost.

And his ex-wife is a liar.

Jessica's Penthouse - 6:23 PM

Kyle calls Jessica. Tells her everything.

"Zoey's faking the dementia," he says. "Sloane confirmed it."

Jessica's jaw tightens. "Are you sure?"

"Positive. She saw Zoey throw away the pills."

Jessica looks at Kira. "We need to search her apartment."

They drive to Zoey's place. The building is run-down. Paint peeling. Broken windows.

"This is where she's living?" Kira asks.

"The loan sharks took everything else," Jessica says.

They break in. Search through Zoey's belongings.

In the bathroom trash, they find them. The pills. Dozens of them. Untouched.

"She never took a single one," Kira says.

Jessica's face is cold. "She played us all."

The Restaurant - 7:45 PM

Kyle meets Mariah for dinner. A small Italian place. Quiet. Intimate.

"How are you feeling?" Mariah asks.

"Better." Kyle lies. His vision is getting worse. Everything is blurry. Doubled.

"I'm glad you're okay." Mariah reaches across the table. Takes his hand. "I was so scared when you fell."

"You saved me," Kyle says. "If you hadn't grabbed me—"

"Don't." Mariah squeezes his hand. "We saved each other."

They eat in comfortable silence. Talk about small things. The weather. The news. Anything but the trauma.

"What are you going to do now?" Mariah asks.

Kyle hesitates. "I don't know. Find Sloane. Try to help her."

"And after that?"

"I don't know." Kyle's voice is quiet. "Maybe... maybe it's time for me to step back. Let you live your life."

Mariah's eyes widen. "What are you saying?"

"I'm saying you deserve better than this." Kyle gestures vaguely. "Better than me. Better than all this chaos."

"Kyle—"

"You have a future, Mariah. A real future. Don't let me hold you back."

Mariah's eyes fill with tears. "You're not holding me back."

"Yes, I am." Kyle stands. His vision swims. He grabs the table to steady himself.

"Are you okay?" Mariah asks.

"Fine." Kyle forces a smile. "Just tired."

They hug goodbye. Kyle holds on longer than he should.

"Have a good life," he whispers.

And then he's gone.

Mariah watches him leave, tears streaming down her face.

The Foundation - 9:12 AM (Next Day)

Kira wheels into the conference room. The board is waiting.

"Thank you all for coming," Kira says. "I have an announcement."

The board members lean forward.

"Effective immediately, the Skye Foundation will be rebranded as the Simon Group."

Murmurs ripple through the room.

"The Simon name represents integrity," Kira continues. "It represents justice. It represents everything this organization should have been from the beginning."

One board member raises his hand. "And what about the Skye name?"

"The Skye name is tainted." Kira's voice is firm. "Zoey Skye used this foundation to commit crimes. To hurt people. To destroy lives. We're moving forward. And we're doing it under a name that means something."

The board votes. Unanimous approval.

The Simon Group is born.

Jessica watches from the back of the room, tears in her eyes.

Her family name. Restored.

The Apartment Building - 4:37 PM

Kyle searches for Sloane. Checks her usual spots. The shelter. The street corners. The parks.

Nothing.

He ends up at Zoey's apartment building. Maybe she knows where Sloane is.

He climbs the stairs. His vision is worse now. Everything is a blur.

He knocks on Zoey's door.

She opens it. Looks surprised. "Kyle?"

"Where's Sloane?" Kyle demands.

"I don't know—"

"Don't lie to me!" Kyle pushes past her into the apartment. "I know you're faking the dementia. I know everything."

Zoey's face hardens. "Get out of my apartment."

"Not until you tell me where our daughter is."

"She's not your daughter anymore." Zoey's voice is cold. "She's mine. And you're not taking her from me."

"You destroyed her!" Kyle's voice rises. "You destroyed everything!"

"I did what I had to do!" Zoey screams back. "I survived! That's more than you can say!"

They're shouting now. Screaming. Years of rage pouring out.

Kyle steps forward. Zoey steps back.

They're at the top of the stairs.

"You're a monster," Kyle says.

"And you're a coward," Zoey replies.

Kyle reaches for her. Zoey shoves him.

He stumbles. His vision blurs. He can't see the edge.

He falls.

Backward. Over the bannister.

Two stories down.

He hits the pavement with a sickening crack.

Zoey screams. Runs down the stairs.

Kyle is lying on the ground. Blood pooling beneath his head.

"Kyle!" Zoey drops to her knees beside him. "Kyle, I'm sorry! I didn't mean—"

Kyle's hand reaches up. Touches her face.

"I loved you," he whispers.

And then his hand falls.

His eyes go empty.

He's gone.

Zoey sits there, covered in his blood, screaming.

The Crime Scene - 5:15 PM

Jessica and Kira arrive. Police are everywhere. Yellow tape. Flashing lights.

"What happened?" Jessica asks an officer.

"Kyle Kline. Fell from the second floor. Dead on arrival."

Jessica's face goes white. "Where's Zoey?"

"Inside. We're questioning her."

Jessica pushes past the officer. Finds Zoey sitting on the stairs, blood on her hands.

"You killed him," Jessica says.

Zoey looks up. Her eyes are hollow. "It was an accident."

"You're a liar."

"I'm telling the truth!" Zoey's voice cracks. "We were fighting and he fell. I didn't push him. I didn't—"

"You did." Jessica's voice is ice. "You killed him. Just like you killed Riley."

Zoey doesn't respond.

Jessica's phone rings. It's Sloane.

"We need to tell her," Kira says quietly.

Jessica answers. "Sloane—"

"Is it true?" Sloane's voice is shaking. "Is my dad dead?"

"Yes."

Sloane's sob is heartbreaking. "How?"

Jessica looks at Zoey. "Your mother—"

"Put her on the phone," Sloane demands.

Jessica hands the phone to Zoey.

"Sloane?" Zoey's voice is desperate. "Baby, I'm so sorry—"

"Did you kill him?" Sloane asks.

"It was an accident—"

"Did. You. Kill. Him?"

Zoey's silence is answer enough.

"I'm calling the police," Sloane says. "I'm telling them everything. About Riley. About Dad. About all of it."

"Sloane, please—"

The line goes dead.

Zoey sits there, the phone in her hand, her world collapsing.

Again.

The Cliff - 11:47 PM

The same cliff where Riley died. Where it all began.

Zoey stands at the edge, staring down at the water.

Jessica approaches slowly. "Zoey."

Zoey doesn't turn. "I knew you'd come."

"The police are on their way."

"I know." Zoey's voice is hollow. "It's over, isn't it?"

"Yes."

"I didn't mean to kill him." Zoey's voice cracks. "I didn't mean to kill any of them."

"But you did." Jessica steps closer. "You killed Riley. You killed Kyle. You destroyed everything."

"So did you." Zoey turns. Her eyes are wild. "You destroyed Sebastian. You destroyed Madison Tower. You destroyed me."

"You deserved it."

"Did I?" Zoey laughs bitterly. "Or did you just need someone to blame?"

Jessica's jaw tightens. "Come away from the edge."

"Why?" Zoey spreads her arms. "What do I have left? My daughter hates me. My empire is gone. The man I loved is dead."

"Zoey—"

"You won, Jessica." Zoey's smile is broken. "You got your revenge. Are you happy?"

Jessica doesn't answer.

"I didn't think so." Zoey steps closer to the edge. "Revenge doesn't make you happy. It just makes you empty."

"Step back," Jessica says.

"Or what?" Zoey's eyes are blazing. "You'll push me?"

"I don't have to. You'll do it yourself."

Zoey stares at her. At the woman who destroyed her life.

And then she lunges.

Not backward. Forward.

At Jessica.

They collide. Grapple. Stumble toward the edge.

"You took everything from me!" Zoey screams.

"You took my daughter!" Jessica screams back.

They're at the edge now. The water far below.

Zoey's hands close around Jessica's throat.

Jessica brings her knee up. Zoey gasps. Her grip loosens.

Jessica shoves her.

But Zoey doesn't let go.

She grabs Jessica's arm. Pulls her forward.

They both stumble.

And then Jessica feels it.

The ground disappearing beneath her feet.

The air rushing past.

The water rising up to meet her.

Zoey's face above her, twisted in rage and grief.

And then the cold.

The same water that killed Riley.

The same water that started everything.

Jessica hits the surface.

Goes under.

The darkness swallows her whole.

And Zoey stands at the edge, alone, screaming into the night.

The revenge architect.

Drowned by her own design.
